Measuring Young''s modulus with a tensile tester
Download figure: Standard image High-resolution image In the mathematical modelling of elasticity phenomena, this is known as linear elasticity. Since is defined as the ratio of tensile strength to tensile strain, students should know that Young''s modulus can be found by taking the gradient of the curve in figure 2. ...

In recent years, polyethylene (PE) pipes have been widely utilized for urban natural gas transmission. However, as the use of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes increases, their service life and long …
Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)
Storage modulus is not the same as Young''s modulus (E), which can be obtained from a tensile test. DMA is also a great tool for determining the phase transition temperatures, such as the glass transition temperature (Tg) of a material.
Determining elastic modulus from dynamic mechanical analysis: …
Abstract. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) method is used to measure viscoelastic properties such as storage and loss moduli of materials. The present work is …

The storage modulus, loss modulus and loss factor of the material first increase and then decrease with the increase of the nozzle temperature, and reach the maximum at about 215 C. Compared with the effect of nozzle temperature on the elastic modulus and tensile strength, the dynamic mechanical properties of the FDM-printed …

Defining Tensile Strength, Elongation, and Modulus …
Modulus Modulus is the force at a specific elongation value, ie 100% or 300% elongation. Expressed in pounds per square inch (psi) or megapascals (MPa), modulus is most widely used for testing and …
Chapter 6 Dynamic Mechanical Analysis
the stress relaxation modulus from a tensile test is plotted as a function of time, over an accessible time scale, for various temperatures. A reference temperature of To=25 C was …

The instrumentation of a DMA consists of a displacement sensor such as a linear variable differential transformer, which measures a change in voltage as a result of the instrument probe moving through a magnetic core, a temperature control system or furnace, a drive motor (a linear motor for probe loading which provides load for the applied force), a drive shaft support and guidance syste…

Tensile Modulus vs. Young''s Modulus
Tensile Modulus, also known as the Modulus of Elasticity or Elastic Modulus, is a measure of a material''s resistance to deformation under tensile stress. It quantifies the relationship between stress and strain in the linear elastic region of a stress-strain curve.

The glass transition temperature can be determined using either the storage modulus, complex modulus, or tan δ (vs temperature) depending on context and instrument; because these methods result in such a range of …
Defining Tensile Strength, Elongation, and Modulus for Rubber …
Modulus Modulus is the force at a specific elongation value, ie 100% or 300% elongation. Expressed in pounds per square inch (psi) or megapascals (MPa), modulus is most widely used for testing and comparison purposes at 100% elongation. This is referred to as "M100" or modulus 100. In general, higher durometer materials have a higher modulus.
